Workforce Development

Middle School Speakers Bureau Returns to Local Schools

Members of the Chamber’s Workforce Development Task Force returned to classrooms to introduce students to the excellent career opportunities in the trades and manufacturing fields.  Representatives from ATI Specialty Materials, Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Plastics Division and UCHRA took over classes at Cuthbertson and Piedmont Middle Schools in February, and March. They shared hands-on presentations about the wide variety of career opportunities at their organizations.

Along with introducing students to career options before they reach high school, this program helps them become aware of and develop the soft skills employers are looking for. Students were engaged in the presentations, and shared rave reviews of the presenters.

Workforce Development - ncIMPACT Initiative aims to increase number of NC students who get post-secondary degrees or certifications

As North Carolina’s economy grows, so do the number of jobs that require high-quality credentials or post secondary degrees. But only 49% of North Carolinians ages 25-44 have completed that level of education.

YOUR Union County Chamber is helping to create a thriving community through our work to develop and grow a strong talent pipeline. We’re proud to announce that we are partnering with Wingate University, Union County Public Schools, South Piedmont Community College, and other community groups as part of a grant made possible through The UNC School of Government’s ncIMPACT Initiative and myFutureNC. The collaborative will work to come up with solutions to the education attainment gap in Union and Anson Counties.
