Building a business can be challenging and lonely. Finding the help, information, and allies you need can be overwhelming and slow the growth of your business. YOUR Union County Chamber can help. We’ve compiled the resources, support and connections you need to make your business thrive. It’s one of the many ways we champion business growth and prosperity.
Members of the Chamber’s Workforce Development Task Force returned to classrooms to introduce students to the excellent career opportunities in the trades and manufacturing fields. Representatives from ATI Specialty Materials, Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Plastics Division and UCHRA took over classes at Cuthbertson and Piedmont Middle Schools in February, and March. They shared hands-on presentations about the wide variety of career opportunities at their organizations.
Along with introducing students to career options before they reach high school, this program helps them become aware of and develop the soft skills employers are looking for. Students were engaged in the presentations, and shared rave reviews of the presenters.
As North Carolina’s economy grows, so do the number of jobs that require high-quality credentials or post secondary degrees. But only 49% of North Carolinians ages 25-44 have completed that level of education.
YOUR Union County Chamber is helping to create a thriving community through our work to develop and grow a strong talent pipeline. We’re proud to announce that we are partnering with Wingate University, Union County Public Schools, South Piedmont Community College, and other community groups as part of a grant made possible through The UNC School of Government’s ncIMPACT Initiative and myFutureNC. The collaborative will work to come up with solutions to the education attainment gap in Union and Anson Counties.
House Bill 947 – The G.R.E.A.T. Broadband Expansion Act
This bill would create and fund the Completing Access to Broadband (CAB) program, a broadband grant program for unserved areas within North Carolina counties. YOUR Chamber hosted Representative Dean Arp at a Public Policy Meeting in April to discuss the bill. The video is available here for you to learn more.
House Bill 1133 – Broadband Modernization
This bill proposes new requirements for internet speeds to be faster in order to be qualified as Broadband. If this bill passes, it will also positively impact the G.R.E.A.T. Broadband Expansion Act, allowing for faster internet to reach more underserved areas.
House Bill 1005 – Organized Retail
This bill increases the penalties for organized retail theft as the value of the goods stolen increases. It also increases the regulatory requirements for third party resellers using online marketplaces.
