Business plays a vital role in the well-being of our community: creating jobs for our residents, paying tax dollars that support the infrastructure needs of our community, and enhancing the quality of life for all residents through their support of local nonprofit organizations that serve the most vulnerable in our community.

Union County has a strong, diverse business community which has been a catalyst for growth in good economic times and has softened the impact of challenging economic issues like recession, inflation, recent supply chain issues, and even a pandemic.

The Union County Chamber has identified infrastructure investment as one of the essential components needed for new business and industry development as well as for continued success for existing business and industry.  In fact, infrastructure investment is of such importance to the continued economic health of our community it is one of three focus areas of the Chamber’s 2022 Legislative Agenda.

Recently, the Union County Chamber Board of Directors voted unanimously to adopt a resolution in conjunction with the Monroe-Union County Economic Development Commission Board of Advisors to recognize the past infrastructure investments made by Union County and local municipalities which have resulted in record levels of business growth throughout our community.  Equally important the resolution encourages the County and local municipalities to expand investment in necessary infrastructure including water, wastewater treatment, transportation, and high-speed internet to support the continued business growth and business prosperity throughout Union County as well as the quality of life for our residents.

At the September 19, 2022 meeting, Chamber President/CEO Pat Kahle and EDC Executive Director Chris Platé presented the joint resolutions to the Union County Board of County Commissioners along with supporting resolutions from the Towns of Stallings, Indian Trail, Wingate, Fairview, and the City of Monroe to request the Commissioners consider adopting a supporting resolution of their own.  In addition to Ms. Kahle and Mr. Platé, members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors and Public Policy Committee were present and Weddington Mayor Horne and Waxhaw Mayor Pappas both spoke in support of the resolutions.  After the presentation, the Board of County Commissioners voted to unanimously adopt a supporting resolution.

By adopting these resolutions and furthering discussion, the Chamber and our community partners are working together to meet the current and future needs of the business community we serve.
