Make It In Union County Expands to the Whole Month of October

Scenes from Make It in Union County, students touring manufacturers, speakers in schools, etc.

Over the past 11 years, Make It in Union County has grown by leaps and bounds. YOUR Chamber is proud to announce that this year, we will be extending the program to the entire month of October.

What is Make It In Union County

Make It In Union County, or MIUC, is a grassroots effort to increase awareness of manufacturers’ positive impact on our community and promote manufacturing as a premier career choice.  The goal is to increase awareness among students, parents, educators, and our community– that today’s manufacturing provides high-tech, well-paying career opportunities.

We will kick things off this year with the Manufacturing Celebration Breakfast on Friday, October 4. This is also National Manufacturing Day. This invitation-only event is to celebrate the positive impact manufacturers have on our community.

As we have since 2013, we are teaming up with Manufacturers, Union County Public Schools, and South Piedmont Community College to host Make It In Union County.

What Students Can Expect

Union County Public Schools students will have the opportunity to tour local manufacturers. Workers from local manufacturers will also go into the schools to educate students on career opportunities. They will essentially take over a class for the day, sharing working requirements, salary, career projection and more with students. The speakers also focus on durable (sometimes called “soft skills”) that students will need to be successful.

South Piedmont Community College takes an active role as well. This year they are hosting an Open House for interested students on October 17, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Attendees can take advantage of campus tours, learn about academic and short-term workforce training programs, as well as witness interactive program demonstrations. You can read more and register for that here.

We are grateful for the partnership with the following manufacturers who are participating in Make It In Union County this year.
