Healthcare providers across Union County are working on the front lines to keep our community healthy, and serve those who are not well. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, they have added extra precautions and new procedures for patients, as well as visitors.
Visitor Restrictions apply to all Atrium Health inpatient locations. Effective Thursday, March 19, only essential patient visitors will be allowed to visit, including:
Patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or patients at the end of life

TytoHome, a medical exam kit with attachments patients can use at home, allowing a provider to virtually examine sounds and images. Novant Health is the only healthcare system in the Carolinas to offer this type of enhanced virtual care. To make it more accessible to more people, potentially eliminating unnecessary visits to medical facilities in this current climate, NH Digital Services LLC is offering TytoHome devices at a 50% reduced cost at NovantHealth.org/TytoHome.
Nonessential surgeries, procedures and doctor office visits are postponed.
Novant also has a self-guided coronavirus assessment tool
Novant has opened several screening centers for those who do not have a primary care physician, but are experiencing symptoms. The closest one to Union County is:

AFC Urgent Care
Beginning immediately, we are setting up an outdoor tent to be able to screen patients for various symptoms prior to allowing them to enter our buildings and potentially spread any viruses. If our providers are exposed to the COVID-19 virus they would have to be quarantined for 14 days.
Customers requiring Workers Compensation visits or Occupational Medicine assessments will be welcome in the general waiting area if they are not ill. Please consider utilizing our facilities so that we do not overwhelm the ER’s.
We are implementing an at home video chat (telemedicine) with your local AFC provider through your smartphone or tablet. This AFC telemedicine solution should be up and running by Sunday, March 22nd.
Patients should go to afcurgentcarenc.com to a center that is convenient to them and complete the online registration prior to arriving ensuring that the check in process is as efficient as possible.
Upon arrival, patients will be asked to enter alone unless a caregiver is needed or a minor child is the patient, this is to avoid anyone contracting even minor illnesses in our lobbies. We want to continue to stress the need for “Social Distancing.”
Lastly, we are working with our suppliers to provide the COVID-19 tests, but there are very small quantities available. When and if we are able to provide testing specific to the COVID-19 virus we will be in further communication.
