2023 Union County Chamber Leadership Summit

The inability to communicate effectively across differing views is creating significant challenges for communities striving to work together and prosper. Union County is full of intelligent, innovative, passionate people who want the best for OUR community. However, in an age of polarized views and warrior mindsets against those with differing opinions, people find it harder to have civil discussions about important issues. When we are entrenched in our positions, it becomes nearly impossible to reach consensus. This erosion of social bonds can lead to a fragmented community where mutual support is weakened.

It is not just relational ties that are affected. This polarized environment threatens the economic stability of our communities.  Business owners struggle to navigate a polarized environment. Attracting new businesses to a divided community can be tough, which hinders economic growth and job creation, perpetuating a cycle of stagnation and decline.

Challenges in communicating effectively can lead to delays in addressing critical issues like commercial development and infrastructure investment. This stagnation not only harms residents’ quality of life but also undermines the long-term viability of communities.

Without intentional action, commitment, and understanding, we risk perpetuating the cycle of division.

2024 Union County Chamber Leadership Summit

One of the ways YOUR Chamber champions business growth and prosperity is by convening business and community leaders together with elected officials and policymakers.

The 2024 Leadership Summit is focused on bringing stakeholders together to communicate productively, cooperate to meet shared goals, and collaborate to create a vision for our community we can all work together to achieve.

We’re bringing back celebrated author, speaker, and community champion Doug Griffiths, CEO of 13 Ways, for the 2024 Leadership Summit.

He will share how effective communication is crucial to overcoming the challenges facing our county.

Along with an insightful and engaging research-based keynote, Doug will share communication strategies to overcome the anger and divisiveness that is hindering our ability to work together. He will lead an interactive workshop to help attendees prioritize dialogue over debate with a focus on community building and what we have in common rather than what divides us.

The Leadership Summit will be held on September 11, 2024 from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Union County Agricultural Center.

By fostering a culture of respectful and productive communication, communities can begin to heal and move forward. It requires effort and commitment from all parties involved; however, by focusing on shared goals rather than entrenched differences, communities can work towards solutions that benefit everyone. And the rewards—stronger, more resilient communities—are well worth it.

Registration is now open for the Leadership Summit here.
