"Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”

2024 UNION COUNTY CHAMBER LEADERSHIP SUMMIT

How far could Union County go if we chose unity and collaboration over division?

Successful collaboration begins with respectful, open communication. The inability to communicate effectively across differing views has created significant challenges for communities striving to work together and prosper.

Often we find it challenging to have civil discussions about important issues.

This leads to a breakdown in communication that can cause delays in addressing critical issues like commercial development and infrastructure investment.

This inaction negatively impacts residents’ quality of life and undermines the long-term viability of OUR community.

A Powerful Opportunity to Enact Change

YOUR Union County Chamber exists to champion business growth and business prosperity throughout Union County. Our vision is everyone who lives and works in Union County will enjoy a thriving local economy.

Union County is full of intelligent, innovative, passionate people who want the best for OUR community. But when we become entrenched in our positions, it becomes nearly impossible to reach consensus. Without intentional action, commitment, and understanding, we risk perpetuating the cycle of division

Following his popular presentation last year, we’ve invited celebrated community-building expert and author Doug Griffiths to share an interactive and revelatory workshop to help local leaders, business owners, and residents gain a fresh perspective, new insights and create a successful future for Union County.

Keynote Speaker: Doug Griffiths

Doug Griffiths is a wildly popular community strategist and author of two best selling editions of “13 Ways to Kill Your Community”. He has supported, guided and inspired hundreds of communities to create effective change.

He grew up on a ranch outside a small town where he learned the value of hard work, critical thinking skills, and the value of community. That background led him into politics, which gave him a  deep  understanding about how to move people and to get things done. Griffiths has an Executive MBA, and Honors B.A Philosophy Degree, as well as his Bachelor of Education, all from the  University of Alberta where he has taught community and municipal leadership courses for elected officials and administration.

What to expect

We all know the adage: if you want to go fast, go alone, but if you’re going to go far, go together.

We see the value of cooperating, yet we don't. Instead, we outright refuse to work together because of illogical reasoning and irrational fears.

And so we stand alone.
We feel safer, and yet our communities shrink, and our economies die.

This presentation will utilize humorous stories and blunt truth as it takes you through the myths of cooperation held by the public, administration, and community. In addition, it will show you the best places to start working together, and just how good it can be to collaborate and cooperate.

Along with an insightful and engaging research-based keynote, Doug will share communication strategies to overcome the anger and divisiveness that is destroying our ability to work together. He will lead an interactive workshop to help attendees prioritize dialogue over debate with a focus on community building and what we have in common rather than what separates us.
